How to Stop Timesharing

by | Nov 4, 2020 | Firm News, Florida Family Law

I got divorced in Florida earlier this year and we agreed to split custody of our dogs. Do I still have to abide by that now? We agreed to share the dogs for 6 months on and 6 months off. Now I don’t want the dogs because It’s far too stressful to maintain contact with my ex-husband. Am I legally obligated to pick up the dogs on the date we had agreed upon?

If you and your ex have an agreement you should first contact the ex and discuss giving him 100% ownership of the dogs. If possible, amend the agreement in writing. If the agreement was court-ordered and your ex will not comply, you may consider filing a modification with the court. However, your best bet is talking to your ex and figuring out amicably. Of course, you should speak to an experienced family law attorney regarding your dogs’ custody agreement. Contact the law offices of Mark E. Sawicki, P.A. today for a free case consultation.
